Poland's geography

Landscape
Although most of Poland's territory is lowland, the country has amazing and extremely versatile natural environment. The variety of landscape encourages sightseeing, active leisure and sports - very popular pastimes, especially among young people in Poland. In the north, the country is bordered by the Baltic Sea with its beautiful sandy beaches. It is northern Poland where the Lake District is situated with a great number of postglacial lakes - a perfect place for sailing and canoeing. The south of the country, on the other hand, is dominated by highlands and mountain ridges (the Carpathians and Sudety Mountains). You can also enjoy hiking in the Beskidy Mountains (Babia Góra, 1,725 m) as well as the Sudety Mountains (Snieżka, 1602 m). More experienced hikers will choose the Tatra Mountains with their Alpine line of land (Rysy, 2,499 m). The mountain ridges also offer wonderful skiing opportunities.

Cities
Warszawa, Kraków, Wrocław, Toruń, Poznań, Gdańsk and Zamość are the most interesting and beautiful cities in Poland.

Climate
Poland has a mild climate. In the summer, which begins in May, temperatures rise above 20 degrees Celsius. You have to be prepared for sunny and hot weather with occasional periods of longer rainfall. Those who love winter weather may hope for frost and snow. Some winter periods, however, are mild with hardly any snow.
