Option 1: self-arranged option - students look for an accommodation by themselves.
Option 2: Tutor Accommodation Services - flats are provided by real estate agencies which cooperate with the International Programmes Office. Students should fill out the Accomodation Form (updated 23-04-2012) and send it back along with their application documents or by e-mail to Magdalena Krasowska, magdalena.krasowska@uek.krakow.pl till June 30, 2011.
All students wishing to use the Tutor Accommodation Services will be divided into groups and each will be allocated to one Accommodation Tutor. Within a period of a couple of days after deadline you will be notified as to whom your Accommodation Tutor is so that you will have all the relevant contact information and will be able to contact him/her directly and ask any of the questions that you may have concerning your accommodation in Krakow.
* Please Note: You as students make the decision as to where you would prefer to live. Addresses are not assigned to students before their arrival!!
In general the real estate agency and the Tutor Accommodation Service operate in the following way:
1)You confirm your time and date of arrival at least 2 weeks before coming to Cracow.
2)Before arrival make sure that your Personal Tutor, who is allocated to you by Magdalena Krasowska knows in advance about your arrival and whether you would like to be picked up from your place of arrival (you will find out who your Personal Tutor is in August/September 2011).
3)Before arrival your Accommodation Tutor will e-mail you photos (if available) of apartments and rooms and will present you with a description of the local area and how far it is from the Market Square, the University, as well as what the monthly maintenance costs of the flat are.
4)If you arrive on a Friday afternoon, Saturday or Sunday it will be necessary to stay temporarily in a hotel/hostel - your Personal Tutor will help you to find a suitable place and book it.
5)Before you arrive you should be sure that contact with your tutor has been established and that an appointment has been setup so that you will have the chance to go with him/her and view some accommodation.
6)When a student chooses a flat the landlord/landlady will expect an immediate signing of the contract before allowing the student to reside there. Your Accommodation Tutor will be with you through it this process.
7)Payment: Students are normally expected to pay: a deposit (equivalent of one month's rent), the rent for the first month and also an administration charge to the real estate agency. (The administration charge amounts 60% of one month` s rent which each student is supposed to pay. This fee is paid once only for the real estate agency service).
